The General Committee has agreed, for
the third consecutive year, that their
will be no increase in subscriptions for
2008. Current rates of subscription, if
paid before 1st May, 2008 when the
prompt payment discount ends are as
follows:- Rowing - £70; Social
Rowing - £40; Country - £40; Cadet
(under 18) - £40; Cadet (under 16) -
£15; Associate - £12; Non-rowing cadet -
£5. Payment can be made to the Duty Bar
person at the Clubhouse, or sent to the
Membership Secretary, Don Hickman, 145,
Great Preston Road, Ryde, Isle of Wight.
PO33 1AZ. Cheques should be made payable
to "Ryde Rowing Club". It will be of
great assistance to the Club if your
subscriptions can be paid promptly -
after 1st May the prompt payment
discount ends and an increased rate of
subscription will apply.

Head
of the Stour 9th March 2008
Ryde
Rowing Club, sponsored by Wightlink I.W.
Ferries continued their preparations for
the new Coastal season with a trip to
Christchurch for the Head of the Stour,
returning to the Island with an
impressive haul of five wins.
In the
first division the Club concentrated on
single sculls with seven scullers
competing. Mike Jenner produced the
fastest time of the day of any single
sculler to win the Men's Open Veteran
event in a time of 12 minutes 38
seconds. Ian Hayden was the next Ryde
Sculler home in 12 minutes 53 seconds to
win the Coastal Junior Section, followed
by Nick Pike in 13 minutes 11 seconds to
record 2nd place in the Men's Senior
Coastal Sculls. The young Ryde Novice
Sculler Tom Clark completed the course
in an impressive time of 13 minutes 31
seconds to win the Novice Section. Ben
Ade secured 2nd place in the Men's
Coastal Junior Sculls with his time of
13 minutes 56 seconds and Stu Johnson
was 5th in the Men's Coastal Sculls with
a time of 14minutes 55 seconds. Alan
Evans was 3rd in the Men's River Veteran
Sculls in a time of 18minutes 41
seconds.

Thames Valley Trial Head. Sunday, 27th
January, 2008
Ryde
Rowing Club returned to the scene of
last years South Coast Senior Fours
Championship triumph, the 2012 Olympic
Regatta venue at Dorney Lake, Eton, for
their first competative event of the
year.
The event
was the Thames Valley Trial Head, and
although their was no Senior Four
available as a result of illness and
holidays the Wightlink sponsored club
still managed to take a group of
eighteen athletes of all ages and
statuses along. Racing was in the form
of a time trial, over a 1900m course
with crews starting, in statuses, at
approximately fifteen second intervals,
across two divisions.

Scullers Head of the River Race,Tideway,
Saturday, 1st December.
Two of
Ryde Rowing Clubs Senior Oarsman, Nick
Pike and Mike Jenner, competed in the
Scullers Head of the River Race on the
Thames on Saturday (1st December)
against some of the best single scullers
in the country.
The race,
over four and half miles, from Mortlake
to Putney, is the reverse on the
University boat race course and is a
time trial with scullers starting at
approximately ten second intervals in
their status and in the order that they
finished last years race. Four hundred
and twenty seven scullers started the
race.
Mike
Jenner finished in 6th place in the
Men's Veteran B status, 115th overall,
in a time of 22minutes, 50.43 seconds.
Nick Pike, racing in the Men's Veteran C
section finished in 10th place, 133rd
overall, with a time of 23 minutes 0.62
seconds. Mike and Nick recorded the best
times from the scullers entered from any
of the South Coast Clubs.
This was
the Wightlink sponsored Ryde Rowing
Club's last competitive races of 2007
although training sessions continue
throughout the winter, both on and off
the water. The 2008 racing program is
still under consideration but the Club
expects to compete on the mainland at
least once a month in January through
March in preparation for next years
Coastal season which starts with Ryde
Regatta on Saturday, 24th May.

Ryde
Rowing Club celebrated a very successful
season, in which they won the Hants &
Dorset, South Coast and National Men's
Senior Coastal Fours Championships and
the Men's National and Hants & Dorset
Coastal Senior Sculls Titles, at their
Annual Presentation Dinner at Yelfs
Hotel, Union Street, Ryde on Saturday,
17th November.

GENERAL MEETING of RYDE ROWING CLUB will
take place at the Clubhouse, Appley
Park, Ryde, on THURSDAY, 18th OCTOBER,
2007 at 8.00pm.
Itchen Imperial Rowing Clubs Junior
Regatta
Wightlink
sponsored Ryde Rowing Club took a team
of ten Juniors to the Itchen Imperial
Rowing Clubs Junior Regatta on Saturday
(29th September) returning with one win
and four second places.The win came in
the Girls J14/J13 Coxed Quad, where
racing against older opposition the Ryde
Crew of Holly Evans, Leona Fisk, El ena
Gaskin and Emily Rose with Coach Petra
Saunders Coxing comfortably held off a
challenge from Poole Rowing Club over
the final stages of the race.

South Coast Championships - Ryde Mens
Senior for Win Gold
Ryde
Rowing Club's Men's Senior Fours Crew of
Ben Ade, Mike Jenner, Matt Allsopp, Ian
Hayden and cox Bryony Reeve, duly
completed the "Triple Crown" of Coastal
rowing on Saturday when they added the
South Coast Mens Senior Fours
Championship to the already secured
Hants & Dorset ARA Mens Senior Fours
title and the National Coastal Champions
title to complete a fantastic season for
the Wightlink sponsored Club. They
received their Championship Medals and
the famous "Bidiford Bowl" from four
time Olympic Gold-medal winning oarsman
Sir Matthew Pinsent, CBE,
at a ceremony in the Clubhouse during
Saturday evening. This is the fourth
time the Club has won the South Coasts
most important rowing title, following
wins in 1985, 1986 and 1987 and they are
one of only
six Hants & Dorset Clubs to have won the
Senior title - with only Christchurch
having won it on more occasions.

Ryde win Sports Club of the Year 2007
Ryde
Rowing Club won out to pick up this
year’s coveted ‘Sports
Club of the Year’ prize, along with
a cheque for £6,000. Based in the Isle
of Wight the club offers a wide range of
opportunities to become involved in
coaching and competitions. As part of a
pilot scheme, Ryde also introduced over
300 participants from local middle
schools to the sport.
