Another busy weekend for the Wightlink sponsored Ryde Rowing Club as they competed in Newport Regatta on the Saturday (21st June) and the re-scheduled Shanklin Regatta on the Sunday (22nd June) as well as supporting these two other Island Clubs by providing part of the Safety cover at both events.

Over the weekend there were two good performances from the Ryde Senior Crew of Ben Ade, Mike Jenner, Nick Pike and Ian Hayden with cox Elena Gaskin at Newport and Bryony Reeve at Ryde. In both events the Ryde crew finished second to keep themselves in the hunt for South Coast Championship Representative honours.

In the Men's Junior Fours there was another impressive performance from the Ryde crew of Callum Lowe, Tim Wiggins, Francis Moore and Tom Clark with Bryony Reeve coxing on the Saurday (at Newport) to win with comparative ease but disaster struck on the Sunday, at Shanklin, when the prevailing conditions caused an upset in the boat while they were leading the race, from which, in spite of a spirited comeback, they never recovered eventually finishing in 4th place.

Coxless Coastal pairs racing only took place at Shanklin because of the restrictions on the time available at Newport. In the Men's Senior Pairs ,Ian Hayden and Ben Ade continued to challenge finishing 3rd at Shanklin in their final - with the Junior Pairs of Callum Lowe and Tom Clark and James Ekllund and Jamie Lawson finishing 3rd and 4th respectively in their final.

Senior Sculler Mike Jenner produced one of his best ever performances on the Saturday (Newport) to win the event over club rival Nick Pike but could not match this on the Sunday finishing 2nd with Nick Pike disqualified for a minor course infringement.

There was another one, two for Ryde Scullers in the Junior event on the Saturday (Newport) Ian Hayden beating Ben Ade in the final, but they were less successful on the Sunday (Shanklin) finishing 2nd and 3rd.

Mens Novice Scullers Tom Clark and Callum Lowe were forced to withdraw on the Saturday (Newport) because of a program conflict with their Junior Fours event but both raced on Sunday finishing 3rd and 5th respectively in the final.
