On the
Sunday, 17th June, having travelled up after Woolston
Regatta to the National Water sports Centre, near Nottingham, two of Ryde's
Senior Oarsman - Nick Pike and Mike Jenner competed in the National Veterans
Regatta - the first Oarsman from the Island to do so. Combining with two oarsman from Poole Rowing Club as a composite crew they raced in the Men's Veteran C Coxless four, where, having finished second in their heat to claim a place in the final, they maintained this form to take a Silver Medal. Nick and Mike then competed in the Single Sculls - Nick competing in the Veteran C event, finishing 2nd in his heat to comfortably qualify for the final - where he claimed another Silver medal. Mike, competing at Veteran B, found the going a little tougher but put up a spirited effort to finish 3rd in his heat just missing out on a place in the final.
