Bournemouth Regatta, Saturday, 1st August, 2009.
Wightlink sponsored Ryde Rowing Club had a frustrating day at Bournemouth
Regatta on Saturday (1st August). On arrival they were met by very blustery
conditions with Regatta Officials expressing grave concern about the event going
ahead. The start was delayed by an hour and a half to see if the conditions
would improve to allow some racing and consideration was given to putting the
Senior Fours afloat to test the conditions which would have included Ryde's
Championship chasing four. But after the Umpires had gone afloat they reported
that the conditions were even worse at the turn than they were at the start and
so the Regatta was abandoned.
The only silver lining for the Ryde Club was that with the Bournemouth Regatta
Committee announcing that they would be unable to reschedule the event the Clubs
Junior Sculler, Tom Clark, was confirmed as this seasons Hants & Dorset
Champion, as with only one Regatta left where the event is held his nearest
rival can not now catch him.
