Bournemouth Regatta. Saturday, 5th August
Wightlink sponsored Ryde Rowing Club competed at Bournemouth Regatta on Saturday, 5th August - but with limited success compared to other regatta's held so far in the Coastal season.
However, as usual, they were able to rely on Senior Sculler Nick Pike who secured his 11th consecutive win in his event - with Matt Allsopp in 4th and Mike Jenner 5th.
Ryde had three crews in the Senior Final, the B Crew of Ollie Bottrell, Con and Christy Sullivan and Steve Salter, coxed by Clare Salter producing the best result, finishing 2nd with the A Crew of Nick Pike, Mike Jenner, Matt Allsopp and Ian Hayden, with Penny Glazzard coxing finishing 4th and the C Crew of James Docherty, Chris Walker, Stu Johnson and Matt Bull, coxed by Adam Edwards finishing in 7th.
The Men’s Junior Senior Crew of Christy Sullivan, Ed Baqubvis, Matt Evans and Sam Cocker with Penny Glazzard coxing finished 3rd in their final - and need a return to winning ways to maintain their challenge for the Championship.
The Men’s Junior Four, three of whom - Tom Clark, James Eklund and Jamie Lawson are racing above their status because of Tom Foad Junior status and with Bryony Reeve coxing did well to finish in 5th place.
In the Junior Ladies Race the A Crew of Aimee Dibbens, Hayley Edwards, Rachael Brimstone, Kim Salter and Cox Adam Edwards started very well, taking an early lead but equipment failure at the turn let them down and they finished in 3rd place just ahead of the B Crew of Rachael Whitmarsh, Chole Attrill, Sofie Draper and Claire Salter with Bryony Reeve coxing.
Ryde's young Novice Sculler, Tom Clark, had another good race finishing in 4th place against much older and bigger opposition. |
