Christchurch Regatta. Saturday, 12th August

Wightlink sponsored Ryde's Men's Junior Senior Crew of Adam Drockett, Ed Baqubvis, Matt Evans, Sam Cocker and Penny Glazzard, Cox. produced a fine performance at Christchurch Regatta on the 12th August, fighting through several rounds of two boat racing to win the final against Southsea with some style and to draw level on four points each with Southsea and Itchen in the chase for the Hants & Dorset Championship.

The Men's Senior A Crew of Nick Pike, Mike Jenner, Matt Allsopp, Ian Hayden and Cox Penny Glazzard very nearly equalled this performance just loosing out in the Final, by less than a length to a BTC crew that had beaten the Clubs Senior B Crew of Christy and Con Sullivan, Tom Foad and Steve Salter and cox Claire Salter in the previous round.

The Men’s Novice Crew of Adam Drockett, James Eklund, Jamie Lawson and Tom Clark with Bryony Reeve coxing looked impressive on the way to their final but again failed at the last hurdle finishing second. With one change - Tom Foad replacing Adam Drockitt - this crew also competed in the Coastal Junior Fours but found this tough going loosing out in the first round.

Both Ryde Junior Ladies Crews - the A Crew - Aimee Dibbens, Hayley Edwards, Rachael Brimstone, Kim Salter and cox Adam Edwards - and the B Crew of Jo Foster, Steph Goody, Claire Salter and Chloe Attril with Steve Salter coxing - reached the semi-finals of their event before loosing out.

However while their was disappointment and frustration with some of the results for the Clubs adult crews the Juniors, racing in Coxed Quads over a shortened course, had no such problems. In the Women’s J16 event the Ryde Crew of Charlotte and Rachael Brimstone, Kim Salter and Lousie Glover with Bryony Reeve Coxing beat BTC in their Final as did the Mixed J14 Coxed Quad of  Adam Edwards, Ollie Gove, Josh Collyer, Charlotte Brimstone and Cox Kim Salter and in the Men’s J14 event the crew of  Josh Collyer, Ollie Gove, Adam Edwards, Tyler Foad and Cox Bryony Reeve who beat Itchen in the final to secure a third win for the Juniors.
