Coalporters Regatta, 26th May, 2007

The hi-light for Wightlink sponsored Ryde Rowing Club at Coalporters Regatta
on Saturday (26th May) was another fine performance from Champion Senior
Sculler, Nick Pike, who won his second Men's Senior Sculls race of the season
having knocked out fellow Ryde sculler Matt Allsopp in the heat and pushing
Ryde's third Senior Sculler, Mike Jenner, who won his heat, into 2nd place in
the final.
Another impressive sculling performance followed in the Men's Novice Sculls
where Ian Hayden won his heat and final to take the first step towards promotion
to Coastal Junior status. Ryde's other Novice Sculler, Stu Johnson, in his first
Coastal Regatta, finished 3rd failing to make the final.
Ian Hayden also qualified for the Junior Coastal Sculls final along with fellow
Ryde Sculler Ben Ade where they finished second and third to complete a good all
round performance from the Ryde scullers.
The fours events proved to be a little more frustrating with the Men's Senior A
Crew of Ben Ade, Mike Jenner, Matt Allsopp and Ian Hayden with Bryony Reeve
coxing, qualifying for the twice round final with comparative ease but then
being disqualified in the final, while leading, after a missed buoy turn. The
Senior B Crew of Robin Kersey, Stu Johnson, Nick Pike and Matt Evans, with Jodie
Cocker coxing finished second in their heat, narrowly missing out on joining the
A crew in the final.
In the final of the Ladies Senior Fours, the Ryde crew of Chloe Attrill, Steph
Goody, Sophie Draper and Rachael Brimstone with Jodie Cocker coxing produced a
very encouraging performance to finish second in their final behind the current
Hants & Dorset Champions from Coalporters - and a similar fate befell the Ladies
Junior Pairs crew of Jodie Cocker and Emily Page who also produced a good
performance to finish in second place.
The Men's Junior Pair of Callum Lowe and James Eklund found the going a little
more difficult finishing in 3rd place after some slightly erratic steering
