GB Masters Championships.
Gold Medal for Ryde Sculler.
Ryde's Masters squad competed in the British Masters Rowing Championships
Regatta last weekend (Sunday, 12th June) held at the National Water sports
Centre at Holmepieerepoint, Nottingham, returning to the Island with two medals.
In the final of the Men's Masters "B" age group Single Sculls Ian Hayden took an
early lead, which he never looked like loosing, eventually winning by more than
two clear lengths to take the Gold medal with another Ryde sculler, Simon
Saunders, racing in the same event and just missing out on a medal finishing in
4th place.
Also racing in a single, in the Men's Masters "C" age group was Micky Jenner,
who was closing fast on the leader at the finish - but just run out of time,
finishing in 2nd place to take the Silver medal.
Russell Page also competed in the single sculls, racing in the Masters "D"
category and producing a good performance - but finishing just outside the
medals in 4th place.
These four scullers then combined to race in a coxless quad where they also had
a good race finishing in third place.
The Wightlink sponsored Ryde Masters Squad will next compete at the Henley
Masters Regatta in July, where they will be up against some of Europe's best
masters oarsmen.
