HENLEY VETS + World Cup in Lucerne, Switzerland.

Friday, 13th and Saturday, 14th July, 2007.

Although the scheduled event in the Hants & Dorset Regatta program, Milford-on-Sea Regatta was postponed for a second time on Saturday,14th July, Wightlink sponsored Ryde Rowing Club were still in action over the weekend. Two of their Senior oarsman - Mike Jenner and Nick Pike competed in the Henley Veterans Regatta, raced over a shortened version of the Royal Regatta Course of 1000m - with two boat racing meaning that a crew have to race several times each day to make progress.

Nick Pike sculling in the Veteran C section won through to the second round where he came up against the sculler who beat him at the National Veterans Regatta earlier in the season and unfortunately missed out again.

But Mike Jenner, racing in the Senior B section, fought through to the quarter-finals on Saturday before being knocked out.  Nick and Mike also raced in a composite coxless four with two members of Poole rowing Club reaching the quarter final before being knocked out by a strong crew from Upper Thames.

Ryde's International Oarsman - Simon Jones was also in action over the weekend. Following his success at Henley Royal Regatta, the previous week, where he had a member of the Leander/London Composite Crew that had won the Quadruple Sculls and having fought his way back into the GB Lightweight squad, following injury last year, he was selected for the lightweight quad that raced in the final world cup regatta of the season in Lucerne, Switzerland. The crew exceeded expectation, winning their heat on the Saturday to gain a place in the final where they finished in the Bronze medal position behind Germany and Italy. Simon will now focus on trying to get into one of the GB Lightweight Olympic Boats for next years Olympic Regatta in Beijing.
