ITCHEN IMPERIAL REGATTA

Saturday, 23rd June, 2007

Wightlink sponsored Ryde Rowing competed at Itchen Imperial Rowing Clubs Regatta on Saturday, 23rd June and produced their best set of results so far his season with three wins.

The hi-light of the day was a very impressive performance from the Men's Senior Crew of Ben Ade, Mike Jenner, Matt Allsopp and Ian Hayden with young Bryony Reeve coxing who won both their heat and the final - with, arguably the harder race coming in the heat against Lymington than in the final against old rivals BTC. Ryde have now drawn level with BTC in the chase for the Championship.

Ryde's domination of the Men's Senior Sculls continued in spite of two of the usual trio not being entered. This time it was Mike Jenners turn to taste victory winning the event with comparative ease.

Matt Allsopp and Ian Hayden then combined to race in the double sculls to secure a relatively easy victory in the last event of the day.

Earlier Ian Hayden had won his Novice Sculls Heat and looked comfortable in the final but following a disastrous turn he eventually finished in second place and so he is still seeking that elusive second win that will see him promoted to the next status. Ryde's other Novice Sculler - Tom Clark finished 2nd in his heat just missing out on the final. as did James Eklund in the J16 Sculling event.

Ben Ade had a disappointing race finishing third in his heat in the Junior Sculls and a similar fate befell the Men's Senior Pair of Matt Evans and Stuart Johnson.

The Men's Junior Four of Callum Lowe, James Eklund, Tom Clark and Jamie Lawson and coxed by Ollie Gove also had a disappointing row in the Men's Junior Fours finishing 3rd in their heat - but then produced the surprise result of the day for Ryde by racing in the Men's Junior Senior Fours, a status higher, with just the one change - Robin Kersey replacing Tom Clark - and finishing second behind Championship leaders Itchen Imperial.

A Men's Junior Pair of Tom Clark and Robin Kersey also competed and finished 3rd in their final.

Ryde have another busy weekend this week competing at Lymington Rowing Clubs Regatta at Milford on Sea on the Saturday (30th June) before a naming ceremony and launching for two new Coastal  Coxed  Fours/Quads on Sunday (1st July) from their Appley Park,Clubhouse, at around midday - with all members welcome.
