National Junior Inter-regional Regatta.
National water sports Centre, Nottingham.
Saturday, 19th April, 2008.

There was bitter disappointment for Ryde Rowing Clubs young sculler Adam Edwards last Saturday (19th April) when he attended the National Junior Inter-regional Championships at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham as part of the Wessex Regional Team.

Adam had been selected following intensive trials to represent the Wessex Region (Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight) as the J15 Boys Single Sculler in this National event and as part of his training regime for the event he also attended a three day Wessex Team training camp at Bryanston School in Dorset and two days training with a top rowing coach at Reading Rowing Club. Adam, supported by his family traveled to Nottingham on the Friday before the event along with the Clubs Junior Coordinator Steve Bull who was assisting with the team management. However on arriving at the National water Sports Centre early on the Saturday morning they were met by very difficult  conditions with the strong easterly wind making the course more like a Coastal Regatta! The start was first delayed and then all the single sculling events, including the Boys J15 event in which Adam was due to race were cancelled – and soon after all racing was abandoned – and it is unlikely that the event will be rescheduled. So although Adam has received his regional vest he has missed out of this opportunity to test himself against the best J15 Boys Scullers in the country.
