LYMINGTON REGATTA. Saturday, 23rd May, 2010.
There were mixed fortunes for Wightlink sponsored, Ryde Rowing Club, who
represented the Island at Lymington Rowing Clubs Regatta held at Milford on Sea
on Saturday (22nd May).
There was disappointment in the Men’s Senior Sculls which has been dominated by
the Club in recent years – where the best result cam from Matt Allsopp who
finished in third place with Mick Jenner and Ian Hayden finishing further down
thee field. There was further disappointment for the Men’s Senior Four of
Russell Page, Mick Jenner, Matt Allsopp, Ian Hayden and Cox Bryony Reeve when a
misunderstanding at the turn led to their disqualification while they were well
in contention.
However there was success in the Coxed Quad Sculls where the Club decided to
give two of its Junior members – Sam Corney and Dale Buckett the opportunity to
race with two experienced Senior Scullers – Matt Allsopp and Ian Hayden, who,
with Bryony Reeve coxing once again, held off a strong challenge from a powerful
and experienced Southsea Crew and the host Club Lymington to win by just a
canvas.
