SECOND FOR ALLSOPP AT LYMINGTON

RYDE CLUB gained three second places at last Saturday's Lymington Regatta, two in single sculls and one in the senior four.
Matt Allsopp competed in the junior singles, in which the club won the Hants and Dorset championship last year. After a strong start, he led the field by two or three lengths.

Crowding on the turn forced him to give way to the eventual winner, Foad of Itchen.
However, an exciting last 200m saw Allsopp clawing back the distance in his customary final sprint to finish just a short distance down.
Nick Pike also led the field from the start in the senior sculls but his main rival, Mike Gisborne of Southsea, was able to pull back in the second half to defeat Pike for only the second time in five races. Pike still leads the championship table.

In the same race Mickie Jenner started fast and was second to Pike for much of the first half of the race but was pushed off course and lost ground moving out to the turn, finishing fifth.

The senior four were with main rivals BTC to the buoy in an exciting race but a cox'n error at the buoy, when they missed the turn and had to move across to take another, lost them ground to finish second once again.
The senior pair also started well but poor steering put paid to their hopes. There is now a two-week gap to Poole regatta.
