Following the disappointment of the cancelled Island Regatta's the Hants & Dorset ARA Coastal season finally got under way last weekend with the regatta at Milford on Sea hosted by Lymington Rowing Club.

It was a reasonably successful day for the Wightlink sponsored Ryde Rowing Club with three wins recorded.

The surprise win came in the men's Senior Pairs, not an event the Club has traditionally been very successful in, where Ben Ade and Ian Hayden were comfortable winners. Ian Hayden then produced another fine performance in the Men's Junior Sculls winning this event with Ben Ade finishing in 4th place.

The Clubs Junior A Crew, with three Novices - Callum Lowe, Tim Wiggins and Francis Moore in the boat along with Stroke Tom Clark and Cox Bryony Reeve also won their event fairly comfortably. The Junior B of Jamie Lawson, James Eklund, and Tom and James Cleary with Elena Gaskin coxing finished some way down the field.

The Novice Four of Tom and James Cleary, Callum Lowe and Adam Edwards, with Elna Gaskin coxing and  racing together for the first time also found the going quite tough finishing 6th in their heat as did the Junior Pair of Jamie Lawson and James Eklund, who, after a good start, fell back to finish 5th in their final.

But their was a very encouraging performance from Men's Novice Sculler Tom Clark who finished 2nd in his final as did Mike Jenner in the Senior Sculls although he will be disappointed with his result.

The Men's Senior Four of Mike Jenner, Sam Cocker, Ben Ade and Ian Hayden, with Bryony Reeve coxing were forced change in to a change in format due to unavailability, which meant that Mike Jenner also had to change  sides. They were still well in contention at the buoys but dropped back on the return leg to finish in 4th place.

Mike Jenner compensated for these disappointments with a win in the Veteran Fours in a composite crew with BTC Rowing Club.

Senior Sculler Mike Jenner will have been disappointed with his 2nd place as will the?
