ROWING UpdateFEBRUARY, 2000. NEWS FOR ROWING MEMBERS - FROM THE ROWING SUB COMMITTEE
Ryde R. C. - accredited by the ARA as a "Go-Row" Club Affiliated to OAR the "Open Adaptive Rowing" Association.
The Amateur Rowing Association has hi-lighted Ryde as a potential Project Oarsome Club entering into the project in January 2001. Project Oarsome is the ARAs Flagship National Junior Rowing program aimed at creating Club and School links and only a limited number of Clubs are invited to apply and it is to the Clubs credit that we have been selected. Project Oarsome could bring major benefits to the Club especially the equipment package worth around £50,000. A small Committee has been established to pursue this further - and initial contacts and discussions have been held with the ARA and the Local authority with the initial feedback being very positive.
Tanzie Page, one of the Clubs most successful Oarswomen and an active Coach is flying off to Sydney soon to take part in the New South Wales 500k Charity bike ride. She is paying for all her own expenses, paying her own entry fee for the race etc. and all the money raised will go directly to the Earl Mountbatten Hospice. If any one would like to make a donation could they please send it to " c/o The Team Manager, 3, North View, Thorley, Isle of Wight PO41 OSU. Cheques payable to Earl Mountbatten Hospice please.
