The position of Assistant Secretary was unfilled, as were members to serve on a Bar Committee. Until such time as these positions are taken up, the functions will be carried out by the main committee.

MEMBERS, if you are active and would be interested in fulfilling any of these roles, please speak to one of the current Officers or Committee, they would be pleased to hear from you.

The Financial AGM will be held at the Clubhouse on Friday 22nd February 2002. If applicable you will find a notice convening the meeting and Agenda enclosed with this newsletter.

Please make every effort to attend as it is your opportunity to see how your subscriptions are spent and have your say.

It cannot be stressed too often - it’s YOUR Club.

The clubhouse continues to see an increase in the number of members and private parties, all of which make a valuable contribution to club finances. If you are thinking of holding a party or know someone who is, why not use YOUR Rowing Club? Contact Steph Hickman on 613077 for further details.

Staffing the bar continues to be a major headache, and while it continues it will not be possible to extend opening hours beyond those already in operation, as some would wish. If you can spare one evening or Sunday lunchtime to assist please contact any committee member.

To all those members who have helped out on bar rota during 2002,  a big thank you from the committee.

This year Ryde Rowing Club celebrates its 125th Anniversary. It is planned that a celebration bash will be held at the Clubhouse on Saturday 29th June, at which there will be live music and a buffet provided. Dress will be smart casual and entry will be by ticket only.

Further details will be notified as they are finalised. So book up as soon as the tickets are available to avoid disappointment.

Development.

Funding for a new River Boat - a presentation has been made to a potential new sponsor with the initial response favourable. The Stelph Coastal Boat - this has been a disappointment with little progress to date - "Stelph" have allegedly been very busy and have not yet been able to start on the Coastal Boat from our mould. Project Oarsome - The ARA continue to put pressure on us to "sign-up" but the commitment required from the Club is a concern. However we continue to pursue "funding" opportunities through Ryde SRB and are making an initial approach to the target schools. Awards For All. A grant application is about to be made - under the National Lottery Awards for All scheme - for funding for coach development, a new trailer for the Launch, a new training boat and another Concept2 Ergo.

COACH DEVELOPMENT.

The Club will host an ARA IA course in the Autumn for the Wessex Regional Rowing Council - so this will be an excellent opportunity for any member wishing to take a coaching qualification. We also hope to stage an RYA2 Launch users course in late Feb/early March and a First Aid course later in the year. While there will be a cost to those who take the course we hope the Club will be able to cover most of the fees involved in return for a commitment to coach at the Club. A number of names have already been put forward - any others to Steve Bull (01983 566481. steve@scbull.freeserve.co.uk) as soon as possible.

Steve Bull - for the Rowing Sub Committee. February, 2002.
