News for Members and Friends of Ryde Rowing Club

Margaret Hough.

It is with deep sadness that we record the passing of Ryde Rowing Clubs longest serving member Margaret Hough who has sadly died after a short illness. Margaret joined Ryde R. C. in 1933, actively Rowing for several seasons. Records chart her success in Ladies and Mixed doubles and a lovely photograph of her sporting club colours dated 1938 adorns the wall in the  back lounge. When her rowing career was over she remained a regular and enthusiastic supporter of the Club taking great delight and interest in the achievements of our younger rowers in particular and pleasure in attending many of the Clubs Social activities. She will be missed by many but remembered always with great love and affection. Our sympathy is extended tp her family and many friends.

Ryde Rowing Club Annual Regatta, 2006

Ryde Rowing Club Annual Regatta, 2006, which is part of the Hants & Dorset Amateur Rowing Associations Championship Regatta Programme will take place on Saturday, 13th May from Appley Beach, Ryde, near to the Appley Park Clubhouse. This will be the first Championship Regatta of the season with racing for Men and Women in Coxed Fours, Coxless Pairs and Single Sculls, in a range of different status over a 1820m course with the start near the eastern end of Ryde Canoe Lake and a racing turn off Ryde Pier and return.  Around sixteen Clubs are expected to enter - thirteen being from the mainland, bringing around seven hundred competitors, officials, coaches and spectators to the island for this free to see event.

The Regatta Committee are delighted to announce Ward House Financial Services,  Independent Financial Advisers, of  Cross Street, Ryde, have generously agreed to continue as the Regatta’s main sponsor for a fifth year. They join event sponsors the Isle of Wight County Press, Harwoods Garage, Barclays Bank, the Appley Manor Hotel, the Hope Clinic, Hayden Electrical, DIGS Mike Jenner, Provincial Builders, Glanville's Solicitors, Vectis Insurance, Wilkes Price Hounslow, Island Structures and the Clubs main sponsor Wightlink, IW Ferries.

REGATTA SMALL ADDS ?

Following on from the success of last year, the Club is again offering members & friends who may have their own business, the opportunity to place a small add in the Regatta Programme.  The advertisements,  measuring about 2” x 1”,  will be simple in format with no pictures or complicated graphics, have a maximum of 20 words and will be located in the inside pages of the Regatta Programme.  In addition the advertiser will receive publicity throughout the day over the Regatta PA system, have a mention on the Regatta interactive display in the Clubhouse with enlarged versions of the advert also on display.  In exchange we are hoping that advertisers would be prepared to contribute £25 to the Regatta Fund.
