SUCCESS FOR PIKE AT RYDE AND SHANKLIN
ONE HUNDRED and thirteen crews from twelve clubs competed at
Ryde Club's annual regatta on Saturday.
A crowded programme of 18 races in coxed fours, coxless pairs
and single sculls, for men and women raced over a 1920m course from Appley
Beach, near the clubhouse to a turn off Ryde Pier and return. Once again
Ryde's Nick Pike was victorious in the IW County Press sponsored men's senior
sculls.
NOTICE TO ALL MEMBERS WHO HELPED WITH THE REGATTA On behalf of the Officers, Committee and Regatta Committee can I thank you all for your help at the recent Ryde Club Regatta. Without the help of many of our members with the tasks required over the regatta weekend we would clearly struggle to run such a successful event. I am sure you will be pleased to hear that the Regatta was a great success both on and off the water - in spite of the weather - and that several Clubs commented on how much they enjoy the Ryde event and how they feel that it is the best Regatta in the Hants & Dorset Programme. The Regatta has also been a financial success and some hi- lights are indicated below for your interest. Again my thanks for your help and I hope we can rely on you again next year.
REGATTA FACTS: The Regatta itself, less Bar & Catering, has made a profit of around £90 - which is pretty good considering the local authority grant was cut by £350 to £150. Bar take over the weekend was around - £2,100 - a profit of around £700. Refreshments and Breakfasts made a combined profit of around £480 – over 130 Full English Breakfasts were served over the weekend!
