Ryde Rowing Club competed at the South Coast Rowing Championships on Saturday (10th September, 2011) where the best crews from the three South Coast Rowing Associations - the Coast ARA, the West of England ARA and Ryde's region - the Hants & Dorset ARA - compete against each other in the final Coastal event of the season. This year the event was hosted and organised by the the Hants & Dorset ARA and staged at the 2012 Olympic Regatta venue at Eton, Dorney with Ryde members playing a key role in the organisation of the event by providing the boat marshalling and merchandise sales teams among other roles.

On the water the club had a depleted squad as a result of illness and injury but never the less produced a good performance especially in the mornings Junior Regatta, the hi-light being a win for Harvey Kirkby and Charlie Norman in the Boys J14 double scull final where they completed the 1000m course in a time of 4 minutes 24 seconds. The Boys J16 Coxed Quad of - Sam Corney, Andreas Hicks, Dale Buckett and Max Reeve with Ed Newnham coxing also produced an excellent row finishing the course, in their final in 2nd place, in a time of 3 minutes 49 seconds - just one foot and half a second behind the winners from Plymouth. The Club also had a J16 Boys double of Joe Norman and Charlie Gedling racing who again reached their final where they finished in 4th place in a time of 3 minutes 56 seconds.

Unfortunately delays at the presentation to the Junior Regatta winners led to the Ryde Clubs Junior A Crew of Joe Norman, Charlie Gedling, Charlie Norman and Harvey Kirkby - with Ed Newnham coxing failing to make the start in time for their Coastal Junior race and they were disqualified but the Clubs Junior B Crew of Sam Corney, Andreas Hicks, Dale Buckett and Max Reeve with Katie Corney coxing on this occasion, finished their heat in 5th place with a time of 8 minutes 54 seconds over the full 2000m course- a creditable performance in what was their first race at this status following their promotion at the last Hants & Dorset Regatta of the season.
