Wightlink sponsored Ryde Rowing Clubs Men’s Senior Crew of Stu Johnson, Mike Jenner, Matt Allsopp and Ian Hayden – with young cox Bryony Reeve retained their Southampton Coastal Head of the River Race title on Saturday, 5th May with a fine win against strong opposition, recording the fastest time of the day – 16 minutes, 44 seconds to take the Head Pennant and Men’s Seniors Fours title. They were the only crew to record a time under seventeen minutes in either division – finishing more than half a minute a head of their nearest rivals the Itchen Junior Senior Crew. The result was particularly pleasing for Stuart Johnson who notched up his first Senior win.

The Ryde Clubs Coastal Junior Men’s Crew of Callum Lowe, James Eklund, Allan Evans and Jamie Lawson – with another young coxswain – Ollie Gove – making his début also rowed well to finish third in their section.

The fine performance of Ryde’s two young and inexperienced coxswains – Bryony Reeve and Ollie Gove  was of particular significance in what is a difficult race to steer and where an error can be critical – but where both performed exceptionally well.

Callum Lowe also competed in the second division – in a Mens Novice composite crew with three oarsman from Southampton where they finished 5th.
