Southampton River & Small Boats Head of the River Race. Saturday, 18th March, 2006.

 

A strong contingent from Ryde Rowing Club continued their build up for the 2006 season on Saturday, 18th March, competing in the Southampton River & Small Boats Head of the River Race - coming away with wins in six categories.

 

In the first division the Ladies Senior 3 eight consisting of � Clare Salter, Sophie Draper, Rachael Brimstone, Jodie Cocker, Aimee Dibbens, Hayley Edwards, Elena Hibbert, Kim. Salter and Nick Salter (cox)   - won their section in a time of 19 minutes 37 seconds. Nick Pike and Mike Jenner, competing in the Veteran Single Sculls finished 1st- in 18 minutes 08 seconds - and 2nd - in a time of 18 minutes 46 seconds - respectively and Matt Allsopp won the Men's Senior Sculls in a time of 18 minutes 29 seconds. Ben Ade finished 3rd in the Men's Novice Sculls in a time of 19 minutes 36 seconds.

 

In the second division the Men's Senior Four of Nick Pike, Mike Jenner, Matt Allsopp and Ian Hayden, coxed by Clare Salter won their event in a time of 18 minutes 29 seconds as did the Senior 3 Ladies coxed four of � Rachael Whitmarsh, Aimee Dibbens, Elena Hibbert, Sarah Lamb and Kim Salter (cox|)  - in a time of 24 minutes 30 seconds. The Men�s Novice Four of Tom Clark, James Eklund, Ian Dyer and Jamie Lawson with cox Bryony Reeve, performing well in her first race, finished 2nd with a time of 22 minutes 30 seconds and Novice Sculler, Ben Ade, this time in a Coastal Scull won his section to complete a very successful day for the Wightlink sponsored Club.

 

The Ryde athletes competing wore black ribbons on their racing kit memory of Club Vice President and Trustee, Pat Sherwin, MBE, who passed away last week.

 

The Clubs next competition is on Sunday, 2nd April, when they compete in the Head of the Stour at Christchurch.
