With
a number of Senior Oarsman competing at the Henley event the Club had a smaller
than usual contingent at Southsea Regatta, the largest one day Rowing Regatta in
the country, but they still acquitted themselves well. The Men’s Senior Four of
Stu Johnson, Sam Cocker, Ben Ade and Matt Allsopp with Max Reeve coxing, the
Junior Senior Four of Allan Evans, Tim Wiggins, Calllum Lowe and Tom Clark, with
Max Reeve in the Coxswains seat again – and the Men’s Novice Four of Donat
Debrecan, Curtis Lowe, James Carey and John Gedling, with Dale Buckett coxing
all reaching their respective finals where the each finished just outside the
top three places. There were even better performances from the Men’s Single
Sculler – Matt Allsopp in the Senior event and Tom Clark in the Junior event,
both reaching their finals and finishing 2nd – but more importantly
both being able to claim the Hants & Dorset ARA Championship points as the first
Scullers from the Association to finish. This means that Ryde have still taken
every available Championship Point in the Men’s Senior Sculls this season
meaning that only a Ryde Sculler can now win this Championship and Tom Clarks
point puts him back in the lead for this Championship. The Men’s Senior Pair,
where Ryde are undefeated this season and already Association Champions
comfortably won the event once again, with a new combination of Ben Ade and Matt
Allsopp, to maintain the Clubs record of at least one win at every Hants &
Dorset Regatta this season.
