Swanage Regatta. Saturday, 29th July.
Returning University students boosted the number of Ryde Crews who attended Swanage Regatta on Saturday, 29th July and added to the challenge for the Men's Senior A Crew - boating three Senior Crews for the first this season. The A Crew of Nick Pike, Mike Jenner, Matt Allsopp, Ian Hayden and Penny Glazzard coxing and the B Crew of Christy & Con Sullivan, Steve Salter and Ollie Bottrell with Claire Salter coxing reached the final where under pressure from the B Crew, who finished second, the A crew produced one of their best performances of the season to win by a length and a half and pull level with BTC in the chase for the Senior Fours Championship and South Coast representative honours. The Senior C Crew of Stu Johnson, Ben Ade, Matt Evans and Sam Cocker, coxed by Adam Edwards just failed to make the final.
Nick Pike, having already clinched the Men's Senior Sculls Championship, secured his 10th Consecutive win, with Matt Allsopp in third place. Further success in the single sculls came from Mike Jenner who won the Veterans event and Ben Ade who claimed his second Novice Sculls win to gain promotion to Junior status. Tom Clark also reached the Novice Sculls final - finishing in a creditable 5th place - but Novice Scullers Stu Johnson and Ollie Bottrell, in their first races, failed to make the final.
The men's Coastal Junior Four of Tom Foad, James Eklund, Tom Clark and Jamie Lawson, coxed by Adam Edwards finished 5th in their final but went on to win the J16 event - with one crew change - Tom Foad having to drop-out due to the age restriction.
The Men's Junior Senior Four of Dave Squibb, Christy Sullivan, Matt Evans and Sam Cocker with Penny Glazzard coxing finished 2nd to maintain the challenge for South Coast representative honours.
The Junior Ladies A of Aimee Dibbens, Hayley Edwards, Rachael Brimstone and Kim Salter, with Adam Evans coxing qualified for their final where the they finished 3rd - the B Crew of Rachael Whitmarsh, Sofie Draper, Claire Salter and Chole Attrill just failed to reach their final.
The Club competes at Bournmouth Regatta on Saturday, 5th August and Christchurch on the 12th - with the Jack Pike Sculls, a handicap race for single scullers, and part of Ryde Town Regatta taking place on Sunday 13th over Ryde's Regatta course.
