Thames Valley Trial Head, Sunday, 30th January, 2011.

Ryde Rowing Club travelled to the 2012 Olympic Regatta venue, at Dorney Lake, Eton on Sunday (30th January) for their first competition of 2011. The event is a time trial held over three divisions over the same straight and very fair 2000m course which allows coaches to test different combinations over the three divisions with the knowledge that true comparisons between the divisions can be made and an overall result announced.

The Wightlink sponsored Club has become accustomed to some good results from their Veteran (Masters) squad over the last few years but had only two available for this competition – Mick Jenner and Nick Pike. However they did not disappoint, winning the Master “C” double scull event in a time of 7 minutes 49 seconds and then going on to compete in the Master “C” single sculls which Mick Jenner won in a time of 8 minutes 17 seconds with Nick Pike finishing in 2nd place with a time of 8 minutes 21 seconds.

Ryde’s strong Junior section also competed in the event and produced some very encouraging results – especially from a very young Men’s Novice Crew of Dale Buckett, Jo Norman – in his first race for the club - Charlie Gedling and Andreas Hicks, with Max Reeve coxing, racing in a Coastal Coxed four in the 3rd division. They completed the course in a time of 8 minutes 26 seconds to win the status.

The Clubs Boys J15 Coxed Quad of Dale Buckett, Sam Corney, Andreas Hicks and Max Reeve with Katie Corney coxing, racing in division 2 completed the course in the same time as the Novice Four – finishing in 3rd place in their status.

Sam Corney and Harvey Kirkby competed in the J15 Boys Double Scull’s in Division 3 completing the course in a time of 8 minutes 29 seconds and in 8th place in a strongly contested status. In the earlier division Harvey Kirkby had competed in the Boys J15 Single Scull – racing above his age group – where he finished in a very credible time of 10 minutes 18 seconds.

The Club also had a Girls J17 Ladies Double of Bryony Reeve and Gemma Smith – another club junior competing for the club for the first time – and racing well above their age group – who also had a good race finishing in a time of 11 minutes 17 seconds.
