Veteran Fours Head. Sunday, 6th November, 2011.
A Masters crew from Ryde Rowing Club competed in the Veterans Fours Head of the
River Race last Sunday (6th November). The race is held over a four and a half
mile course on the River Thames from Mortlake to Putney (the Oxford and
Cambridge Boat Race course in reverse). It takes the form of a time trial with
crews starting at approximately ten second intervals. Over 200 crews from across
the country entered the event, all aiming to put down the fastest time of the
day in their respective categories. The Ryde crew of Russell Page, Mick Jenner,
Nick Pike and Ian Hayden competed in a coxless quad in the Master "C" Catagory -
completing the race in a respectable time of twenty-one minutes and twenty-nine
seconds and in 5th place in their catagory and twenty-second overall - beating
local rivals Christchurch by nearly a minute.
