Ryde Juniors at World Rowing Championships.
Fourteen of the Clubs Juniors, with ages ranging from eleven to sixteen travelled up to the World Rowing Championships at Dorney Lake, near Windsor on Wednesday, 23rd August as part of the Wessex group involved in the Amateur Rowing Associations "Adopt a Nation" scheme. Juniors from Clubs all around the country were given the opportunity to attend the World Rowing Championships, held in the UK for the first time in over twenty years, and to support their "adopted" nations - for Wessex this was New Zealand and Japan. Apart from watching the world class racing, which was unfortunately curtailed because of the conditions, they met and received encouragement, advice and coaching from five times Olympic Gold Medallist Sir Stephen Redgarve and from other GB Olympic and World Champions including Tim Foster, Ed Coode and Rowley Douglas. |
